Problem / Objective
Liquid Animation collaborated with Disney, Lucasfilm, Samsung, and Google on promotional digital assets for major releases including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian. The challenge was to create UI designs and wallpapers that captured the visual identity of each franchise while adhering to strict brand guidelines and the technical frameworks of Samsung Themes (Galaxy Note 10+) and Google Pixel devices.
Solution Approach
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of art directors, UI designers, and product designers, I contributed to the creation of UI designs, icon sets, wallpapers, and themed interface elements, ensuring they aligned with brand expectations and technical requirements.
Key contributions included:
UI Design & Theming: Designed color palettes, icons, interface elements, and applied Samsung’s Theme Editor for Note 10+ compatibility.
Wallpaper Design: Created storytelling-driven compositions based on official Disney and Lucasfilm image libraries.
App Backgrounds: Designed Star Wars–inspired screens for Call and Messenger apps, evoking a spaceship console aesthetic.
Cross-Studio Review Process: Prepared documentation and design proposals for review by Liquid Animation, Disney, Lucasfilm, Samsung, and Google, incorporating feedback throughout.
Design Thinking and Process
Brand Alignment: Interpreted Disney and Lucasfilm visual style guides to maintain authenticity.
Exploration: Created multiple UI and wallpaper concepts reflecting the worlds of The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian.
Technical Implementation: Worked within Samsung Themes and Google Pixel specifications.
Review & Iteration: Collaborated closely with internal teams and external partners to refine designs and meet approval standards.
Final Result
The final designs delivered immersive, franchise-aligned digital experiences for Samsung and Google devices, celebrating two major Star Wars releases. Both projects were successfully approved by Disney, Lucasfilm, Samsung, and Google, contributing to the promotional design efforts surrounding The Rise of Skywalker (2019) and The Mandalorian (2020).
